Sailing World Championships to be held on Bay of Quinte waters

Local waters will be filled to the shores with world-class sailors at the end of this month.The Bay of Quinte Yacht Club is hosting the 2026 Shark 24 World Championships in Belleville running June 27-July 2 as part of the BQYC’s 150th anniversary celebrations planned for September.
The regatta will hold its opening ceremonies Sunday, June 28 at 6 p.m.

Hosted on the Bay of Quinte, the championship will bring together top Shark 24 sailors from across Canada, the United States, and Germany and Austria.

The event will highlight the Bay of Quinte’s and its reputation as one of North America’s premiere sailing venues.

The Shark 24 World Championship regatta was granted by the International Shark Class Association to BQYC for 2026, specifically to honour and acknowledge its 150th anniversary, stated club organizers.
