The Ontario government is investing $4.9 million for a new addition at École catholique L’Envol to create more student spaces in a growing community.
This project, when complete, will deliver 138 new secondary student spaces for local families in the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est.
“The funding for the École catholique L’Envol addition in Trenton is great news for our community,” said Tyler Allsopp, MPP for Bay of Quinte.
“Through this investment, we’re creating opportunities for students to thrive well into the future.”
This investment is part of a $1.6-billion commitment to 79 school projects across the province as the government continues to deliver on its plan to protect Ontario and ensure students have access to modern classrooms.
The investments will support growing communities by creating over 29,000 new student spaces and over 1,900 licenced childcare spaces so that students have the modern learning
spaces they need to succeed in their studies as they prepare for in-demand careers.
The Capital Priorities program supports the construction of new schools, permanent additions, renovations and school purchases. This year’s funding will support a combination of new school builds, expansions and retrofits across the province and is part of Ontario’s commitment to provide more than $22 billion over 10 years to support new school construction, renewal and improvements.
The investments were well received by Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est officials.
“This expansion meets the need in the Trenton region. It will provide Francophone families with better access to French-language Catholic secondary education close to home, while ensuring continuity in the educational journey already begun at L’Envol,” said trustee Michel Charron.
Added Chair Johanne Lacombe: “We sincerely thank the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of Education for this significant investment in our community. By supporting the development of this high school pavilion, the government is taking concrete action to meet the needs of families and support the vitality of the Francophone community in the Quinte West region.”
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison also applauded the project, saying this is a significant and welcome investment in the community.
“By adding 138 new secondary school spaces, this is ensuring that our students have the high-quality learning environment they need to succeed and grow right here in Quinte West.”
