The County of Lennox and Addington has announced the appointment of Nathan Townend as its new Director of Communications and Community Development.
Townend brings extensive municipal leadership, government relations expertise, and community-building experience to the role.
He holds a master’s degree from Queen’s University, and will complete his Master’s of Political Management from Carleton University in September 2026. Nathan has built a strong reputation as an advocate for rural municipalities and regional collaboration.
Throughout his municipal career, Townend has served on the Board of Directors for both the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Rural Ontario Municipal Association.
He has also served as Vice-Chair of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus and Chair of Southeast Health Unit, helping advance regional priorities and strengthen partnerships across Eastern Ontario.
Townend served eight years on Loyalist Township Council and four years on Lennox and Addington County Council, most recently as Warden of Lennox and Addington County. Prior to accepting this position, Nathan officially resigned as Warden and as Deputy Mayor of Loyalist Township.
“I am thrilled to continue serving the community I care so deeply about in this new capacity,” said Townend.
“Lennox and Addington is a remarkable place with strong communities, dedicated local leaders, and tremendous opportunities for growth. I look forward to working with County Council, staff, community partners, and residents to strengthen communications, support economic and community development initiatives, and help tell the story of all that makes our region special.”
Brenda Orchard, Chief Administrative Officer for the County of Lennox and Addington, welcomed Nathan to the leadership team.
“Nathan brings a unique combination of communications and government relations experience, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of our communities,” said Orchard. “His experience at the local, county, and provincial levels will be a tremendous asset as we continue to advance Council’s priorities and enhance engagement with residents, businesses, and community partners.”
The County also wishes to thank the Director of Communications for Northumberland County for participating on the selection panel as a subject matter expert during the recruitment process.
Townend will begin his new role with the County in August.
