The budget for a Belleville infrastructure project is growing.
City council officially approved raising the Avonlough Sewage Pumping Station project budget by $30 million to $85 million at its meeting Monday.
The project was initially budgeted for $55 million, but city staff stated although there is sufficient funding to award Contract 1, there was insufficient funding for Contract 2 to complete the project following the bid.
Contract 1 is for the Avonlough Pumping Station itself and twin forcemains to connect to the gravity sewer on Bridge Street West near Palmer Road.
Contract 2 is for the conveyance piping along all of Bridge Street West to the existing pipe crossing the Moira River.
The additional $30 million will cover both contracts.
The Avonlough Sanitary Pumping Station and Conveyance project within the Potter Creek Drainage Area will ultimately service approximately 9,000 new residential units in the west end of the City of Belleville.
The new Avonlough Sanitary Pumping Station will initially have capacity of 108 L/s for 1800 housing units which is expected to provide 10 years of residential development and growth potential.
