The election is still months away, but there are already two candidates to be the next Mayor of Tweed.

The nomination period for the municipal elections to be held on October 26th opened on Friday.

On the very first day, two candidates filed in Tweed, currently Deputy Mayor Jamie Demarsh and Councillor Peter Valiquette.

The current Mayor of Tweed is Don DeGenova.

The first day of the nomination period saw a number of officials put their names forward for re-election, including Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis and Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander.

Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson has already said he will not be running for another term.
