A Belleville hockey player with a famous last name and a wit to match has passed away.
The NHL and national media outlets announced the passing of Dennis Hull at the age of 81 on Saturday.
Hull, known as the ‘Silver Jet,’ was born in the hamlet of Point Anne and went on to play in the NHL with older brother Bobby with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The two played eight seasons together through the 1971-72 season. He remained with Chicago through the 1976-77 season before playing one season with the Detroit Red Wings.
Hull notched 303 goals and 351 assists for 654 points in 959 regular-season NHL games, while posting another 67 points in 104 games in the playoffs.
A statement from Blackhawks chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz, saying Hull was known around the league for his immense skill, toughness and intelligence, as well as for his sharp wit and sense of humor to keep the dressing room loose.
Following his playing career, Hull carved out multiple careers as a broadcaster, educator, athletic director, public speaker, comedian and author.
