Inmate dies in custody southeast of Napanee

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the death of an inmate at Millhaven Institution in Bath, west of Kingston (southeast of Napanee).

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., an incident involving inmates occurred at the institution, resulting in one inmate sustaining life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to a local hospital. The individual, identified as 28-year-old Darian DAIGNAULT, was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad is investigating the death, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Investigators are also working closely with the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Forensic Pathology Service and Correctional Service Canada, with support from the OPP Forensic Identification Services.
