Future of fire response to be decided at Belleville Council

By Paul Martin May 11, 2026 | 5:22 AM

Monday’s Belleville Council meeting will have a significant impact on the future of fire service/response in both wards of the city.

Council will consider a staff report on future locations for what will become Stations 2 (urban/west) and 4 (in Thurlow).

The report recommends that Council designate 3.5 acres of land for the purposes of a future composite fire station and fire training facility to replace current station 4.

The preferred site is the new location of the Belleville Fairgrounds at Black Diamond Road just east of Highway 37.

It further recommends that Council designate 1.5 acres of land at the old fairgrounds property for a future career fire station to replace current station 2.

That location would replace the current Station 2 (and former Headquarters for the service before the current Fire Station 1 on Station Street was constructed) on Moira Street West, which was originally built in 1949.

Council meets Monday at 4 pm.
