Celebrating AccessAbility Week in Belleville

By Paul Martin May 6, 2026 | 11:12 AM

May 31 to June 6 is National AccessAbility Week, a time to recognize the contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities, celebrate those working to remove barriers and highlight the ongoing efforts to build more accessible, inclusive communities. Creating accessible spaces, services and opportunities is essential to ensuring all residents can fully participate in community life.

In recognition of this important week, the City of Belleville is hosting a special event to celebrate progress, raise awareness and reinforce the shared responsibility of accessibility across our community.

Belleville Accessibility Excellence Awards Ceremony – Join the Accessibility Advisory Committee on Wednesday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre as we celebrate the winners of the 2026 Accessibility Excellence Awards. These awards recognize local businesses and individuals who demonstrate leadership in advancing accessibility and inclusion in Belleville. By reducing and removing barriers in areas such as the built environment, customer service, education, employment, information and communication, and transportation, award recipients are helping to create a more welcoming and equitable community for all.

“Accessibility is about creating a community where everyone feels welcomed, valued and able to participate fully,” said Councillor Barbara Enright-Miller, Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. “These awards highlight the meaningful work happening across Belleville and show how each of us can play a role in removing barriers and building a more inclusive city.”

The City of Belleville extends its sincere appreciation to the Accessibility Advisory Committee for their continued dedication to promoting accessibility across City services, programs and facilities. Their ongoing work plays a vital role in identifying barriers, advancing inclusive practices and supporting a more accessible Belleville for residents and visitors alike.

ASL interpretation will be available. Those who require specific accessibility supports are encouraged to contact accessibility@belleville.ca or 613-967-2314.
