There’s positive strides being made on the redevelopment of a 70-plus year-old local hospital.
An update was presented to Hastings County Council on Thursday on the work being done at Campbellford Memorial Hospital by board chair Carrie Hayward and president/CEO Jeff Hohenkerk.
Officials say the limits to infection control, capacity and accessibility, combined with increasing pressure on emergency and in-patient units have made the current 72-year-old facility no longer viable to meet modern healthcare standards.
Hayward and Hohenkerk told council that CMH is playing a key role in the regional healthcare system, with almost 48-per cent of Madoc, Marmora and Lake and Centre Hastings residents visiting the hospital’s Emergency Room, more than double the next closest hospital (Quinte-Belleville).
This helps to relieve pressure on Quinte Health’s hospitals.
The new ‘campus of care vision’ aims to include expanded long-term care and supportive housing, with more space for community services, mental health and recreation.
CMH has received government planning approval and currently, the project is in Phase 1.2, the proposal development phase, with a detailed planning phase to follow.
The Stage 3 construction would then be expected to last between 2029-2032.
