As of April 1st, the Quinte West Warming Centre has officially wrapped up its fifth season, with partners and volunteers reflecting on another meaningful year of community support.
The QW Warming Centre once again provided a safe and warm overnight space during the winter months. Hosted at Trenton United Church, it was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Hastings County, the City of Quinte West, Community Partners for Success, outreach workers, security staff, and a dedicated volunteer team.
This season saw consistent use, with many nights welcoming between 15 and 20 guests. The steady demand highlights the continued importance of having a reliable and compassionate response to winter vulnerability in Quinte West.
More than a place of shelter, the QW Warming Centre was a place of connection. Volunteers spoke about the relationships formed through shared meals, conversation, and simple acts of care. Many reflected on the importance of helping guests feel comfortable, valued, and respected, and on the meaningful impact of those interactions.
Strong collaboration among community partners continued to shape the season. Outreach support helped connect guests with services and next steps, which contributed to positive outcomes, including individuals moving toward housing and accessing additional support. This coordinated approach has strengthened what many describe as a growing “circle of care” in the community.
Volunteer commitment remained at the heart of the QW Warming Centre’s success. Many returned week after week, bringing consistency, compassion, and a welcoming presence. Feedback following the season showed overwhelming interest in returning next year, reflecting both the strength of the volunteer team and the deep sense of purpose found in the work.
The Steering Committee is appreciative of the wider community, whose donations of food, supplies, and other essentials helped create a comfortable and dignified space for guests.
With the season now complete, partners have held a volunteer appreciation event and are reflecting on lessons learned as early planning for next winter begins.
“This has been a season of generosity, cooperation, and care,” said Rev. Isaac Mundy. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped create a warm and welcoming space for our neighbours.”
