Patrick Howe appointed Fire Chief in PEC

Patrick Howe has been appointed Fire Chief of Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue.

“After an extensive recruitment process, the municipality is pleased to welcome Patrick as the new Fire Chief for Prince Edward County,” says Adam Goheen, Chief Administrative Officer. “Chief Howe brings to the position more than a decade of progressive experience with Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue. With his combination of strategic thinking, local knowledge, and commitment to the community, Chief Howe is the right leader as we chart the future of our fire and rescue services.”

Chief Howe joined PEC Fire and Rescue as a volunteer in 2012, progressing through roles as volunteer Captain, Career Training Officer, and more recently Acting Deputy Fire Chief. In his roles, Chief Howe has worked to modernize and standardize firefighter training, streamline the inspection and maintenance of personal protective equipment, and secure new investments in firefighter health and wellness.

Prior to his career in fire services, Chief Howe spent 15 years with Hydro One Networks Inc. He led vegetation management programs, supervising teams of front-line staff and contributing to strategic planning for provincial-level programs.

“I am honoured and excited by this opportunity to lead PEC Fire and Rescue into its next chapter and continue the work of raising the standard of fire service excellence in Prince Edward County,” Chief Howe says. “I believe the career and volunteer firefighters are our greatest asset, and I am committed to empowering them and providing them with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to excel.”

Chief Howe will lead PEC Fire and Rescue with the strong support of Deputy Fire Chief Tim Kraemer.

“I want to thank Tim for his service as interim fire chief and helping bring stability to the organization over the past several months,” CAO Goheen says. “We will continue to draw on Tim’s experience and dedication as we seek to continuously improve the operations of PEC Fire and Rescue.”

PEC Fire and Rescue is dedicated to protecting people in our community through emergency response services, fire safety education, and Ontario Fire Code enforcement. The 10 career and 144 volunteer firefighters work to reduce harm and save lives during fires, medical emergencies, and other dangerous conditions caused by natural or human‑caused emergencies.
