From April 19 to 25, 2026, Volunteer Canada and Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society celebrate
Canada’s millions of volunteers during National Volunteer Week.
The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week, taking place April 19–25, 2026, is “Ignite
Volunteerism”, a year-long national initiative celebrating civic participation and re-energizing
Canada’s culture of volunteerism. Volunteer Canada emphasizes that volunteer involvement plays a
vital role in addressing the complex social, economic, and environmental challenges facing
communities across the country.
Over the years, our volunteers have been a constant support in assisting families, children, and youth.
At Highland Shores Children’s Aid, we recognize the power of people, organizations, and sectors
working together.
During fiscal 2025–2026, 26 individuals donated their time as either board members or volunteer
drivers for Highland Shores. Volunteer drivers logged 429,731 km as of the end of March serving
children, youth, and families, which accounts for 2299 volunteer hours. In addition, board members
collectively participated in over 27 board and committee meetings, not including the time spent
preparing for or travelling to those meetings.
“Every day, our volunteers demonstrate what it means to show up for children, youth, and families,”
said Jess Uddenberg, Executive Director of Highland Shores Children’s Aid. “Their commitment creates
steady, meaningful change in our communities. Whether they’re driving long distances, participating
in governance, or simply offering a steady presence, their contributions make our work possible and
we are deeply grateful.”
