A drug charge was laid after two people were arrested following an incident in a Belleville parking lot.
On April 21st (Tuesday night) at 10:39pm, Belleville Police responded to a report of suspicious activity in a parking lot on North Front Street. It was reported that people were observed switching the licence plants of two vehicles.
Officers located both suspect vehicles, each displaying the same licence plate, and conducted a traffic stop of both vehicles. During the investigation, officers determined that the male driver was a prohibited driver. Methamphetamine was also confiscated.
As a result of investigation, a 55-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while prohibited
· Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine
· Fail to comply with a release order
· Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle (HTA)
· Driving while under suspension (HTA)
· Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle (HTA)
· Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance (CAIA)
· Fail to surrender insurance card (CAIA)
He was held for a bail hearing.
The female driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Use of plate not authorized for vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.
