The Picton Pirates needed a dramatic comeback late in the third period to save their PJHL season last night.
Down 3-1, Picton rattled off four unanswered goals in the final 2:46 to win Game 6 5-3, with Cole Stevenson netting the winner with 53 seconds left in front of a charged-up Picton crowd.
Picton dominated the opening frame with 21 shots, but was held off by Tyson Wilcox in the Jets crease and trailed 2-0 on a pair of goals from former Pirate Carter McKee.
Keenan Wiles and Luc Amat continued their strong series, hooking up for Wiles’ third of the postseason less than five minutes into the second period on a powerplay.
Amherstview re-established the two-goal lead halfway through the third on a Thomas Elkins marker, setting the stage for the Pirates to pull off the dramatic comeback.
Amat made it 3-2 with 2:46 to go, then a little more than a minute later, Gerrit Kempers slipped home the tying marker before Stevenson’s heroics.
Amat flew into the Jets and hit Stevenson coming in for the tap-in, lifting Picton in front to stay.
Liam Philip added the empty-netter to make it 5-3 and send the Prince Edward Community Centre faithful into a frenzy.
Picton doubled Amherstview in shots 51-26, with Nolan Lane stopping 23 in the Pirates net.
The win forces a winner-take-all Game 7 on Thursday night at 7:25 back in Amherstview.
