Provincial grant helps protect Quinte West fire members

Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services (QWFES) has received $104,000 in provincial funding to support the QWFES team with equipment that aims to reduce firefighters’ exposure to harmful substances during emergency response.
The funding is made available through the Ontario Fire Protection Grant to support QWFES’s investment in enhanced decontamination equipment and personal protective gear, including:
Three Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) cleaning extractors – used to safely clean and neutralize contaminants from protective gear following an emergency response.
A Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) washer – to ensure the proper cleaning of QWFES’s SCBA respiratory devices that provide emergency responders with clean, pressurized air in smoke-filled environments.
New particulate flash hoods – protective head and neck coverings designed to shield firefighters from heat, flame, and toxic airborne particles during emergency operations.
