Belleville Council set for overview on draft budget

Belleville Council is getting set for a sneak peek on the draft 2026 budget at its meeting on Monday.

Director of Finance Brandon Ferguson will present the draft budget overview to those around the horseshoe and field any questions from councillors.

It will include a breakdown of the impact for the five tax tables in the municipality, including Belleville Urban, Belleville Rural, Cannifton Urban, Cannifton Rural, and Cannifton Rural to Urban.

The potential tax impact to residents range from 5.32-per cent in the city’s urban area to 7.28 per cent in the transitional Cannifton Rural to Urban region.

Council will discuss the budget more in depth on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at a special meeting starting at 9 a.m.

Also on Monday, council members will consider a resolution for Municipal Support for Quinte Conservation’s Application of the Green Municipal Fund: Growing Canada’s Community Canopies and will receive a recommendation to receive the implementation strategy for two-hour free parking at municipal lots within the downtown DBIA district.

This recommendation also calls for the amendment of the 2026 capital budget of $42,000 for upgrades to all the pay-and-display machines.
