UPDATE – Freezing Rain Warning has been lifted

By Hailey MacDonald Jan 7, 2026 | 8:00 AM

UPDATE at 8 AM on Wednesday – Freezing rain warning has now been lifted. Roads and sidewalks are still very icy today.

UPDATE at 5 AM on Wednesday – Freezing rain warning still in effect with chance of freezing rain extended until the 7 o’clock hour at least.

Roads and sidewalks have been heavily impacted by hours of freezing rain on Tuesday and overnight. Give yourself extra time this morning.

ORIGINAL STORY FROM MONDAY NIGHT – Environment Canada has issued two weather statements for this evening in the Bay of Quinte.

A yellow warning for freezing rain is in effect for several hours with 1 to 5 mm of ice accretion or build up possible.

This is expected to continue this evening and possibly overnight.

Freezing rain, which may be mixed with snow or ice pellets at times, is expected to change over to snow as an area of low pressure moves through southern Ontario. Areas near the Lake Ontario shoreline may see very little ice accretion or build up.

Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect. There is risk of injury due to slips and falls.

Be very careful if walking or driving.

A Special Weather Statement for snow has also been issued, with local snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 cm in an hour possible this evening.

Reduced visibility in snow is likely. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

If driving, turn on your lights, slow down, and maintain a safe following distance.
