Big-rig fire causes extensive delays on 401 in Belleville

By Paul Martin Jan 6, 2026 | 5:12 AM

There were extensive delays on the westbound 401 through Belleville on Monday night.

Multiple 911 calls came in just before 8 pm about a tractor-trailer on fire on the westbound 401 just east of Wallbridge Loyalist Road.

The big-rig was carrying road salt.

The 401 westbound was completely shut down for about 45 minutes until the fire was extinguished.

Quinte West Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours, with one lane closed for the cleanup overnight.

It only reopened around 6 am.

There were no injuries in the fire.
