I love TACO’s, but I especially love them when they are served up on the world stage on live TV.
The term I am referring to emerged in the spring of 2025. TACO is short for Trump Always Chickens Out.
It was used to refer to him making big statements about things like trade deals and sanctions, only for him to reverse it or change it dramatically days or weeks later.
We saw exactly that at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland yesterday when (during a rambling speech with a number of errors and rampant exaggerations), he said they wouldn’t use force to take over Greenland. He also said there was a new framework in place on Arctic security with NATO, and that the tariffs he had threatened to place on eight European nations for standing up for Greenland had been scrapped.
All in all, an epic serving of TACO’s for all to enjoy.
Today, he is taking steps to build his new Board of Peace, which is now looking like it will extend its reach far beyond the borders of the reconstruction of Gaza.
What exactly that will mean, and how this new group could parallel or even challenge the U.N. after Trump leaves office (in theory) in a few years is anyone’s guess.
All I know are two things, Iceland and Greenland are not the same country, and TACO’s are sometimes best served cold.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
