It warms my heart to see one local service that serves and protects openly acknowledge and appreciate the hard work of another such organization.
The Belleville Police Service on Thursday released an open letter expressing admiration for crossing guards for their diligence and dedication, especially on brutally cold days like Monday.
Here is part of that letter.
“Every day of the school year, you are at your posts making sure children get to and
from school safely. In all kinds of weather and through busy traffic, you show up. It is
often a thankless job, but it is an important one, and our community is safer because of
you.
On January 19th, that commitment was especially clear. With heavy snow and wind gusts
up to 70 km per hour, and near whiteout conditions where vehicles could barely see,
many would have chosen to stay home.
But you showed up. You stepped into challenging conditions to ensure children crossed
safely and arrived at school without incident.
We see you.
We appreciate you.
And we thank you.
Belleville is a better community because of the work you do and the kindness and
dedication it takes to serve as a crossing guard.
With sincere gratitude,
The Belleville Police Service”
I couldn’t say it better myself. To everyone who braves the cold to keep us and our kids safe, be safe, be well and be warm, especially over the next few days.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
