UPDATE: Belleville road reopened, Quinte West road closed due to collisions

By Brock Ormond Jan 21, 2026 | 3:00 PM

Weather continues to be a factor in Quinte, with multiple collisions being reported early Wednesday afternoon.

A closure was briefly in place Cannifton Rd. North between Maitland Drive and Tank Farm Rd. following a collision between a vehicle and a utility pole.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. and the Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit stated that hydro lines were affected.

The scene has since cleared and the road has reopened to traffic.

Motorists will still have to avoid the area of County Road 40 and Highway 2 in Quinte West, where a head-on collision was reported just before 1 p.m.

At least two people were reportedly trapped in that crash and needed to be extricated.

County Road 40 is closed from Highway 2 south to English Settlement Road until further notice due to this collision and municipal officials say all through traffic will be detoured.

Notice will be reissued when the road reopens.

And, around 1:30 p.m., Quinte West emergency crews responded to a single vehicle collision in the area of Foxboro-Stirling Road and Oak Lake Road.

Roads and highways are slick due to the snowfall, which could result in 20 cm falling by tomorrow morning, so drivers and pedestrians should be extra careful if they have to go out Wednesday.
