The Three Oaks Foundation has made a bittersweet announcement that it will be closing the Three Oaks Thrift Store as of Dec. 19.
Officials made a statement on Monday, explaining that running the store has become financially challenging for the organization.
“As a small team with limited capacity, we need to focus our resources on our core mission: ending intimate partner violence and supporting those impacted,” the statement read in part.
The store opened in July of 2024, supported by volunteers and provided women and their children with an opportunity to shop free of charge for donated clothing, giving families a dignified and empowering shopping experience.
As a farewell, Three Oaks Thrift will also be hosting a 50-per cent off sale from Dec. 8-19.
Following that, Three Oaks will be launching a revamped volunteer program called The Oak Room, a client-focused clothing program located in its emergency shelter that directly supports women in the community.
“This program not only provides material support but also fosters confidence, self-worth, and connection – outcomes far more meaningful than a modest financial gain to our operating budget,” officials stated.
“We will continue accepting clothing donations to support this program and ensure families have access to what they need.”
