Northumberland OPP ‘Shop with a Cop’ a great success

By Paul Martin Dec 23, 2025 | 11:58 AM

On December 11, 2025, the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was scheduled to host its first ever Shop with a Cop event, designed to connect local students with OPP members for a day of holiday shopping and community connection.

Fourteen elementary students were scheduled to join 14 uniformed officers and civilian volunteers at the Codrington Community Center for a festive outing which included shopping, lunch, gift wrapping and holiday activities.

Unfortunately, severe weather and unsafe road conditions forced the cancellation of this highly anticipated event which could not be rescheduled due to time constraints and other variables that could not be realigned.

Turning disappointment into joy, OPP members quickly organized an alternative. Officers delivered frozen turkeys, fresh produce, pies and all the other fixings to prepare a holiday dinner to each of the 14 families. Each student also received gift cards purchased for them to choose gifts for their loved ones at Walmart. Officers personally hand delivered the cards and shared a photo moment with each student. Families expressed heartfelt gratitude for the effort made to turn the day into something positive and special.

This initiative was made possible through the generous support of our community partners. They extend our heartfelt thanks to:
