Stolen vehicle recovered and charges laid in Northumberland area

A vehicle reported stolen on the 401 in Northumberland County was recovered and a Scarborough resident was charged early Halloween morning.

On October 31 at approximately 4:15 a.m., OPP officers responded to a report of a stolen passenger vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 from Bowmanville.

The driver failed to stop for multiple OPP cruisers and exited the highway before coming to a stop on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton, where officers safely took the individual into custody.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area two days prior.

As a result of the investigation, Toir Bikzad, 30, of Scarborough, has been charged with the following offences:

Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000

Possessing proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Dangerous operation – three counts

Flight from peace officer – two counts

Failure to comply with release order – four counts

The accused was held for bail to to appear in Cobourg Court.
