Local coaches set to represent East Conference in prospect series

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 27, 2025 | 9:29 PM

There will be local representation behind the bench of the OJHL’s East Conference at an upcoming showcase.

Some of the best 2008 and 2009-born players will be competing in the Zach Hyman OJHL Prospects Series, named after the current Edmonton Oilers player and former standout of the Hamilton Red Wings (now Markham Royals).

Trenton Golden Hawks head coach Derek Smith and Wellington Dukes bench boss Jacob Panetta have both been selected to coach the East team alongside Jordan Bailey of the Haliburton County Huskies.

Caitlin McCuaig of the Dukes will be part of the support staff as well.

The six-game series will take place in five communities — Milton, Mississauga, Trenton, Cobourg — with the championship game hosted at the TD Civic Centre in Brantford.

The first game is November 4 at Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens in Trenton.
