Hawks use powerful second period to quell Chargers

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 17, 2025 | 11:43 PM

The Trenton Golden Hawks blew open a tight early game with six unanswered second period goals in a 7-2 rout of the Mississauga Chargers on Friday night.

Special teams played a huge role in the victory, with Trenton notching three powerplay goals and two shorthanded tallies

Jake Shingles, in his Trenton debut, went head-to-head with Michael Tamburro through a goalless first period, before the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens came alive as the Golden Hawks offence surged.

Matt Indovina broke away shorthanded before Taeo Artichuk and Jamie Darlison capitalized on powerplays a minute apart to keep their respective goal streaks going.

Candon O’Neill ripped home his first of the season from distance past a scrambling Tamburro even strength at 14:14 to make it 4-0, then another penalty sent the Hawks to the man advantage, where Jack Ziliotto converted for his ninth of the season.

Artichuk buried another shorthanded tally for his second of the night and team-leading 15th of the year in the final minute to cap off the offensive flurry.

Topping off a four-point night in his Hawks debut, Andrew Wycisk zipped home Trenton’s seventh and final goal at 5:11 of the third.

Mississauga clawed back a bit with two late tallies from Tyler Hinde and Luca Morano, but the Hawks had more than enough to run away with a win.

Artichuk, Wycisk, Ziliotto, Darlison and Kale Mace all recorded multiple points as the Hawks improved to 12-2-0-1.

Shingles made 25 saves to making his Hawks debut a winning one, as Trenton outshot the Chargers 50-27

Trenton will enjoy the win this weekend, and get ready for a long road trip to Leamington next Thursday to face the Flyers at 7:10 p.m.
