Quinte West OPP have charged a 22-year-old man and have issued an arrest warrant for a driver alleged to have fled the scene of a traffic stop north of Trenton on Monday night.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the eastbound 401 near Wooler Road, after a vehicle was clocked going over 150 km/hr.

During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle fled, police said.

The OPP issued a public alert asking the public to avoid the area of Stockdale Road and Highway 33 as officers, the Canine Unit and a helicopter searched the area.

Despite a search overnight they were unable to find the driver.

After a search of the vehicle, police seized a quantity of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and a firearm.

A warrant has been issued for the driver of the vehicle.

·Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
·Possession for the purpose of distributing
·Possession of an identity document – (two counts)

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing in Belleville.
