A 37-year-old Belleville man has been charged with assault.

Early Wednesday morning around 1 a.m. Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end regarding a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to a woman who reported that she had been physically assaulted by a male who then fled the scene.

The man was reportedly forbidden from communicating with a woman and BPS officers learned that he had been in violation of a release order by communicating with her.

He was then arrested and charged with assault, forcible confinement and two counts of failure to comply with release order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
