Beyond the Headlines – joint police operation in Cobourg includes BPS

By Paul Martin Feb 3, 2025 | 1:15 PM

There are no borders when it comes to crime, and thankfully those who serve and protect are more than willing to cross a few lines to get the job done.

On Thursday, there was a joint police operation in Cobourg that resulted in the seizure of weapons and drugs that involved the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB), the Port Hope Police CIB, Ontario Provincial Police Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Belleville Police K9 units.

They seized approximately 344.5 grams of fentanyl

• Approximately 125 grams of cocaine

• Approximately 46 grams of heroin

• Approximately 3.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine

How important was it?  The amount of fentanyl seized is equivalent to 3,445 potentially fatal doses.

Four people face charges in the case, which was the result of an extended and multi-jurisdictional investigation.

When you think of this operation, please remember the willingness of the separate police agencies to work together, pool resources and most importantly save lives in the process.

Sadly, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the drugs coming in and through the Quinte Region. However, saving more than 3,000 lives is not only a successful operation, but an inspiring way to show that teamwork extends well beyond which badge you wear.

I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
