Part of an Enbridge Gas Ontario donation will benefit and ultimately aim to improve firefighter safety in Belleville.

This year’s $125,000 investment from Enbridge Gas through the Safe Community Project Assist initiative, will be shared by 25 Ontario fire departments, including Belleville Fire & Emergency Services.

BFES will use its funding to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.

Belleville fire chief Dan Smith stated these resources will assist in preparation efforts for staff on the front lines of fire prevention, as well as helping the department work toward provincial certification as well as continued refresher training,

Safe Community Project Assist is a program done in conjunction with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates.

Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 394 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.
