Prince Edward County Council approves by-law on Interim Tax Levy for 2026

By Hailey MacDonald Nov 10, 2025 | 11:09 PM

Prince Edward County Council has approved a by-law on an Interim Tax Levy for 2026.

Prince Edward County’s Tax Collection procedures require that an Interim Tax Notice be issued each year, with payment due on March 15 or the next business day. The amount is based on one-third of the previous year’s total tax levy.

To support Prince Edward County’s financial needs in early 2026, staff recommend mailing the Interim Tax Notice with a due date of March 16 to all property owners across all tax classes. This approach helps maintain cashflow without placing the full tax burden on residents at the start of the year.

The amount of the 2026 interim levy, based on 33.3% of the previous year’s total levy, is as follows:

2025 Municipal Levy: $54,011,445

2025 Education Levy: $8,982,297

Total 2025 Levy: $62,993,742

2026 Interim Tax Levy Requirement: $20,976,916

The final tax notice will be issued at least 21 days before the first installment due dates. The due dates for the final tax notice are as follows:

2026 Residential/Farm Property Tax Classes: June 15 and September 15

2026 Commercial/Industrial/Multi-Res Classes: September 15 and November 16

Passing a by-law for the interim tax levy will allow Prince Edward County to collect the funds needed to keep services running through early to mid-2026, until the final tax bills are issued. This is not a tax increase, rather an early collection of part of the 2026 taxes.

The levy is expected to bring in about $20,976,916. Penalties and interest charges of 1.25% per month will apply to unpaid accounts starting April 1, 2026.
