The music will play on in Belleville’s East Hill as a celebration of ‘community, resilience and hope.’
The 17th annual Porchfest takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, with an after-party from 7 to 11 p.m. at 187 Front St.
There will also be performances in East Hill Park from 10 a.m. to noon, at Glanmore from noon to 1 p.m., and plenty of after-shows downtown following the event.
The Rotary Club of Belleville is organizing the event again this year and extends its deepest thoughts and support to everyone affected by the horrific violence at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue this week, including the Jewish community, the Belleville Police Service, and Constable Jeff Smith and his family.
“What happened in our community was shocking and deeply disturbing. We condemn the violence and the hate that has been associated with this horrific act,” stated Rotary Club of Belleville President Hazzem Koudsi.
“Our hearts remain with those who were directly affected, Belleville Police Constable Jeff Smith, his family, and with everyone in Belleville who is struggling to process what has happened. We also believe that moments like this remind us of the importance of coming together for fellowship, which builds stronger friendships and builds goodwill in the community.”
Porchfest Committee Chair, local businessman and musician Sam Brady added that music has a remarkable ability to bring people together.
“It creates connection, lifts spirits and reminds us that our community is stronger when we stand together.”
Additional emergency and safety plans will be in place for Porchfest, and organizers say they will work closely with appropriate authorities to ensure that participants, musicians, volunteers and residents can enjoy the event in a safe and welcoming environment filled with fellowship.
