A local aviation school is one of several organizations gaining liftoff for projects thanks to provincial funding.
MPP Ric Bresee announced on Wednesday that the Ontario government is providing $75,000 to First Nations Technical Institute to establish a 12-month Safety Management Lead position to track safety hazards and improve readiness to support air transportation services that connect Indigenous communities across Ontario.
This is part of a $586,768 funding total being given to eight communities/organizations through this year’s Indigenous Transportation Initiatives Fund.
“This position will help make safety an even stronger part of the school’s culture, while supporting the people who keep communities connected,” Bresee stated.
President of FNTI Suzanne Brant stated this one-time funding provides an opportunity for FNTI to do more complex flight operations beginning this September.
“Stronger operations mean better informed infrastructure decisions to support flight training, and increased capacity for our people,” she said.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to prepare safely and responsibly for where we want to take Indigenous aviation next.”
This program provides funding toward transportation-related projects that will support safer roads, economic growth, and keep people and goods moving.
