Belleville Police laid several charges following a series of incidents involving a stolen vehicle over the weekend.
On February 21st (Saturday) at 10:19pm, Belleville Police responded to a report of an erratic driver in the city’s west end.
It was reported that a vehicle was observed in a ditch, and after exiting the ditch, it continued driving westbound.
Other witnesses reported observing the vehicle driving erratically, losing traction, driving close to parked vehicles, and driving on a pedestrian trail.
Officers located the suspect vehicle in a snowbank nearby.
Further investigation revealed that the driver had entered a vehicle at a business and began driving it.
Officers also discovered a damaged gate at the business, which the vehicle had driven through when it was removed from the property.
As a result of police investigation, a 37–year–old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
• Dangerous operation
• Theft of motor vehicle
• Break and enter
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Mischief over $5,000
• Failure to comply with a release order
• Theft of motor vehicle
• Break and enter
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Mischief over $5,000
• Failure to comply with a release order
He was held for a bail hearing.
