Whiteout conditions impacting morning drive on Tuesday

By Paul Martin Apr 7, 2026 | 6:13 AM

A late-winter hazard is causing major problems on the 401 through the Quinte Region.

There have been a series of crashes likely caused by whiteout conditions and slick sections of roadway due to the snowfall overnight, which has increased in intensity in some areas this morning (Tuesday).

The latest issue was a stalled truck on the northbound side of the Bay Bridge. It was reported to our newsroom at 7:40, with traffic down to one alternating lane.

There were earlier issues at the Wallbridge Loyalist Road exit, and as of 6 am there were major slowdowns possibly related to crashes on the eastbound 401 at Marysville, Shannonville and Deseronto. Another major issue began around the Highway 41 exit at Napanee around 6:30.

Both of these crashes were posted around 6:15 pm on Ontario 511

Collision on HWY 401 Westbound at Hwy 49 (IC 566)/Marysville Rd, Marysville. Left shoulder and left lane closed. Expect delays this morning until conditions improve and give yourself a few extra moments on your first drive of the day.

Disabled Vehicle on HWY 401 Eastbound at MITCHELL RD, Belleville. Right lane and right shoulder closed.
