Belleville man charged with assault following altercation during arrest

Belleville Police have charged a city man after an they reportedly spat at an officer during an arrest.

On March 11th at 10:16am, Belleville Police on general patrol observed a male and female engaged in a verbal argument. Officers spoke with both individuals, and the male reportedly initially provided a false name.

Upon further investigation, officers learned that the male was bound by conditions prohibiting communication with the female. As a result, officers placed him under arrest. The male attempted to flee but was apprehended a short distance away. While in custody, he reportedly spat on an officer. As a result, a 28-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following offences and held for a bail hearing:

· Assault a peace officer

· Obstruct peace officer

· Resist peace officer

· Failure to comply with an undertaking X2

No name was released.
