The County of Prince Edward has contracted Drew Harrison Haulage Ltd. to rehabilitate Bloomfield Main Street between Corey Street and Wellington beginning this spring.
County Council awarded the tender during its meeting on Tuesday, March 10. The scope of work includes:
- Removal of existing asphalt surface
- Placement of 100mm of new hot mix asphalt
- Replacement of approximately 10 storm sewer sections
- Replacement of deteriorated curb sections
- Minor sidewalk panel replacements
- Replacement of west boulevard with new asphalt
- Replacement of east boulevard with stamped concrete (provisional)
- Line painting
Working on this project will take place from April to June. Staff recommended this approach as it represents the shortest overall schedule of three options, allowing the municipality to maximize the available budget. Also, this schedule gives the municipality the best chance of finishing the project on-time and according to plan.
The municipality is making it a priority to deliver the project as planned with the minimal number of delays or changes so that business owners and the public can plan accordingly.
The municipality will host another public information centre (PIC) in Bloomfield in the coming weeks. This PIC will provide more information on the construction schedule and the staging plans.
The municipality secured $2,058,969 in 2025 through the Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links Program to support this project. This funding represents approximately 90% of total project costs. The other 10 per cent is funded from the municipality’s Roads Construction Reserve.
