Snow Squall Watch issued for Quinte on Wednesday

By Paul Martin Jan 28, 2026 | 5:10 AM

Wednesday afternoon could be another tricky one for drivers in southern parts of the Quinte Region.

A Snow Squall Watch has been issued for a large part of the area including Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Brighton, Napanee and Kingston.

It is not in effect in Centre and North Hastings.

Snow squalls off Lake Ontario are expected again today.

Significantly reduced visibility may occur in heavy snow and local blowing snow.

Local snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected starting during the midday and ending this evening.

The area of greatest risk is primarily along and south of the Highway 401 corridor.

That same area was hit by severe snow squalls on Tuesday morning, leading to dozens of crashes and shutting down the highway for most of the day.

It was reopened fully Tuesday night, with conditions being much better (so far) on Wednesday morning.
