A local pairs figure skater and his partner are Milan, Italy bound.

Trennt Michaud won the Canadian National Figure Skating Championships in Gatineau, Quebec this past weekend with pairs partner Lia Pereira to book their tickets to the 2026 Winter Olympics next month.

Michaud, who was born in Belleville, but resided and trained in Brighton and Trenton, worked with Pereira to make up a 9.2-point deficit after the short program to place first in the free skate with a score of 135.03.

They wound up placing first overall at 204.14, 12 points ahead of second place Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps of Quebec, who will still be heading to Italy with the Michaud/Pereira pair.

A video of Michaud and Pereira’s reaction to their win can be seen on Skate Canada’s Facebook page.
