Inmate charged in contraband seizure at Warkworth Institution

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an investigation at Warkworth Institution.

On November 24, 2025, police received a report following the seizure of contraband by a Correctional Officer in a cell area. Items seized included cannabis, tobacco and cell phones.

Following an investigation, a warrant was issued, and on January 19, 2026, a person was charged.

A 28-year-old male inmate at Warkworth Institution has been charged with:

  • Possession of contraband beyond the visitor control point in a penitentiary
  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing

The accused was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
