Crashes cause major delays on Thursday night and Friday morning in Quinte

By Paul Martin Jan 16, 2026 | 5:28 AM

Conditions are finally starting to improve on Friday morning after snowfall and slick conditions were the backdrop for several crashes in the Quinte Region on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Deseronto Road was closed between Old Highway 2 and Bridge Street West in Deseronto following a collision involving multiple vehicles later in the afternoon on Thursday (4 o’clock hour).

One person was transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

That area was shut down for several hours, with the road only reopening at 11:40 pm.

More details on injuries are expected on Friday.

The westbound 401 was closed for a few hours early Friday morning at Wilton Road in Odessa due to a jack-knifed tractor trailer.

They cleared the scene and reopened the highway at 4:21 am. No injuries were reported.

There were dozens of crashes across the Quinte Region in a snow-filled Thursday, with a multi-vehicle crash just before 5 pm on Highway 2 near Hollandale Nursery in Trenton.

No word on the exact number of vehicles involved or any injuries as of yet.

Roadways across the Quinte Region are still snow-covered on Friday morning and drivers are encouraged to show caution until crews can fully clear Thursday’s snowfall, which turned out to be a record for a Jan. 15.

20.2 cm of snow fell, which bested the previous mark of 15 cm set back in 2011.
