Hawks make most of NHL arena experience, defeat Jr. Sabres

The Trenton Golden Hawks made the most of their NHL experience on Tuesday night.

In a game rescheduled from last month, the Hawks got the opportunity to play at the Key Bank Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres and defeated the Sabres OJHL namesake, the Jr. Sabres 4-1.

Both Hayden Jeffery of Trenton and Anthony Alessi of Buffalo shut the door through almost half of the game until the Hawks broke out on top almost halfway through the second.

Beckett Ewart poked home the rebound off a stopped Taeo Artichuk shot for his 10th of the season at the 8:17 mark.

Matt Hicks added the second assist.

Later in the period, Tucker Lyndaker raced in to catch a Brett Kazmierski on a two-on-one and deked out Jeffery to knot the score at one going into a tossup third period.

The Hawks depth took over in the third, vastly outshooting Buffalo 18-3 and winning the game through a neat three-way passing play between Artichuk, Ewart and Jack Ziliotto, with the third man finishing into a gaping Jr. Sabres cage for his 14th of the year.

Late empty-netters from Artichuk and Jamie Darlison rounded out the scoring and got Trenton back in the win column after a three-game losing skid and improved its record to 19-6-0-2, tying for second in the East Conference with Newmarket with 40 points.

The Hawks outshot Buffalo 35-18 overall in their only meeting with their West Conference opponents this season.

Trenton will continue a road-heavy schedule Friday in Aurora at 7 p.m.
