2ND UPDATE – power was restored to the rest of the affected area by tne end of Sunday night.
UPDATE – 4:15 pm – some homes had power restored by 4:15 pm though original outage notice was still showing.
ORIGINAL STORY – The first major snowfall of the season was the backdrop for a significant power outage in Belleville.
Around 2:20 pm, Elexicon posted a notification about an outage affecting between 500-5,000 locations in the south and east ends of the city from Highway 2/Dundas Street East up to Station Street and from Pinnacle Street past East Side Secondary School almost to the eastern Ward 1 boundary.
Crews were dispatched by 3 pm. There is no word yet on the expected duration for the outage.
The cause of the blackout is also unknown but there were reports on social media about a truck striking and heavily damaging a hydro pole on Dundas Street East around the time the outage began.
