Speed cameras will be pulled from Belleville streets by the end of the day on Friday.
Officials with the city announced on Monday that The City of Belleville’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program will be discontinued effective this Friday, Nov. 14, following recent legislation from the Province of Ontario that removes municipalities’ authority to operate ASE cameras.
Infractions recorded before the 14th will continue to be processed, and vehicle owners will remain responsible for paying any fines issued, even if the notice is received after the program ends.
Belleville will continue to implement traffic calming measures to help keep roads safe.
The Municipality of Brighton issued a similar notice last week that their speed camera on Elizabeth Street would be pulled by the end of the day on Friday.
