Six unanswered goals propels Hurricanes over Hawks

By Hailey MacDonald Nov 7, 2025 | 10:02 PM

The high-flying Newmarket Hurricanes wiped out an early deficit with six unanswered goals in Trenton to stun the East Conference-leading Golden Hawks 6-2 on Friday.

Two quick goals from Joey Brehmer and Matt Indovina in less than a minute got the Hawks going in the first.

Brehmer accepted a drop pass from Daylen Moses on a fast rush and beat Newmarket goalie Hayden Duncan for his ninth of the year, followed by Matt Indovina cleaning up a loose puck in front for his seventh.

Late in the frame, the Canes struck fast into a powerplay, needing just six seconds to bury a goal through Simon Wang and that momentum propelled them forward into a huge second period.

Newmarket brewed up their comeback early, with Nate Brentnell finding an open net just 41 seconds in, followed by late markers from Chase Yanni and Colin Maund to give the Canes a 4-2 lead.

Alexander Semenstov and Nathan Phillips pulled Newmarket away with tallies 1:16 apart in the beginning stages of the third to finish off an impressive road effort in a tough building.

The loss was just Trenton’s third in regulation this season and snapped their 10-game point streak.

Moses finished with two helpers, while Candon O’Neil added a single assist and Hayden Jeffery made 26 stops.

The Hawks will aim to rebound at 2:30 Sunday versus the North York Rangers.
