Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison’s reaction to the federal budget was positive overall but still guarded in some ways.
Harrison says “People are going to have to work harder to get less for their money. There are some tax cuts included but people like farmers have to have income before you can worry about taxes.”
He said military investments were great news, and no doubt CFB Trenton is going to get a major boost and it should create jobs and economic spinoff for the area.
Harrison added that the infrastructure money announced is vitally important. Every municipality has projects pending including the new wastewater plant in Quinte West (likely 50-60 million dollars).
He also says that project will help determine how many homes can be built because you can’t build houses without the support infrastructure in place.
