Pedestrian struck by train in Belleville

Crossings at the south end of Belleville were blocked for about three hours after someone was hit by a train late Sunday afternoon.

Around 5:40 pm, Belleville Police officers responded to an incident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a freight train. The incident likely happened around the South Front Street crossing.

Following of the incident, the train blocked several railway crossings, affecting the area from Herchimer Avenue over to South Front Street for just under 3 hours.

They cleared the scene around 8:30 pm.

No word yet on the extent of injuries involved. More information is expected on Monday.
