OPP East Region is sending out a reminder of being attentive around school buses and obeying signals.
OPP officials say they continue to receive reports of drivers failing to stop for school buses, with one bus driver in the region reporting that it happened several times in one day.
Failing to stop when the stop sign and flashing red lights have been activated on a school bus is illegal, with penalties including a fine of up to $2,000 and 6 demerit points for a first offense.
Subsequent offenses can result in a larger fine and up to 6 months in jail.
Police strongly urge drivers to keep their eyes on the road, not your phone and be prepared to stop when approaching a school bus in either direction to avoid endangering young lives.
