UPDATE 8 PM – Queen Street reopened with all fire crews clearing the scene by 8 pm.
UPDATE – 5 PM – Queen Street remains closed around the fire site. It is expected to reopen sometime tonight.
UPDATE – 2 PM – Belleville firefighters also responded to the scene to assist. Two dogs were lost in the fire but one QW Fire crew managed to save a cat from one of the units.
Damages are estimated at 1.5 to 2 million dollars. The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been notified.
UPDATE: 12:10 PM – Queen Street from Wilkins Street to Creswell Drive in Trenton is closed to traffic until further notice due to a multi-unit structure fire in the area.
Emergency crews are on scene, and residents are asked to avoid the area.
ORIGINAL STORY
Quinte West Fire crews are on scene taking care of a reported multi-unit residential fire late Thursday morning.
The fire broke out in a century home on Queen Street around 10:30 a.m. and as of 11 a.m. crews had been at the scene for 20 minutes battling flames on the first floor of the home and in the basement.
OPP and paramedics are on scene treating one occupant of the home for smoke inhalation.
A cause and a damage estimate have not yet been determined.
